Zooms and callouts
A full screen at 1080p shrinks to the size of a phone when someone watches in a help widget. The button you clicked becomes a few pixels wide. We zoom and pan to the area of each step, then pull back so the viewer keeps their bearings. Callouts, arrows and click highlights point to the exact spot. They are used where they help and left out where the screen already makes the step obvious.
Voiceover
Most walkthroughs are narrated by the person who knows the product best. That person doesn't need to be a trained speaker. We cut the ums, long pauses and restarts, level the voice and reduce keyboard and room noise. If the narration and the screen fall out of step, we slow or hold the picture so the voice and the click line up. If you prefer to record narration after the screen capture, send both and we'll sync them.
Chapters and length
Long walkthroughs get chapter markers so viewers can jump to the step they need. On YouTube these come from timestamps in the description, and many help-center and LMS players support them too. Where a walkthrough covers several separate tasks, we often suggest splitting it into a short series instead.
Keeping videos current
Software screens change with every release. To make updates cheap, we build walkthroughs in short sections and avoid baking in details that change often, like dates or sample account names, unless you need them.
Questions
Can you record the screen for us?
No. We edit recordings you make, since you have the accounts and know the product. We can send a short recording checklist before you start.
Can you hide customer data that shows up in the recording?
Yes. Names, emails, addresses and numbers can be blurred or covered with sample values that you provide. List anything you spot in the brief.
